Take Action

You can be heard by contacting the health care policy representatives in your area. If you like, cut and paste the paragraph below and send to one or all of the following:

1. Deb Matthews, Minister of Health

2. Your MPP, found here

3.  The CEO of your LHIN, found here

4. The CEO of your local hospital

“I am concerned about the rising cost of parking at my local hospital. I do not agree that the hospital should be required to charge patients, their caregivers, visitors and staff ever-increasing amounts to meet budget targets. I believe that this practice places an unacceptable burden on a captive market of the sick and aged populations of Ontario.  I am in favour a government review of the policy on parking charges.“

Here is our presentation, used to present the issue to local municipal councils. Please feel free to download, edit and use this document. Please let us know how you do!

Here is a flow chart that may help you organize a strategy for success.

  1. I am so relieved that this fight has become an organised one. All of the involved parties have been blaming each other for the costs and refuse to look at the issue.

People who can’t afford the parking try to park on the streets around the hospital and walk over. Residents then complain and the Town of Markham posts no parking signs, street by street, further back, as they recieve the complaints. They even passed an open ended bylaw in the past few years allowing the town to put up as many no parking signs in this area as they wish.
As for the Town of Markham parking enforcement – this is a ticket rich target area for them. Just ask to see the amt of tickets given each year on these streets.

Thankyou for taking on this very important issue.

  2. Its such as you read my thoughts! You seem to understand so
much about this, such as you wrote the ebook in it or something.

I think that you simply could do with a few % to force the message home a little bit, however other
than that, this is magnificent blog. A great read.
    I’ll certainly be back.
